The dehumanizing of the Royal Family. To quote Vive la Reine:
One of the most common ways to attack the royal family, particularly common after the flight of 1791, was to turn them into animals. Animal caricatures were not only a humiliation, but a way to dehumanize the king and his family—or anyone else the author needed to attack.
